you think to yourself. Does it apply to how long you like your eggs cooked? Maybe how long it takes to get in and out of the shower on a workday?

Well, a few years ago, a group of young parents decided that defined, in part, who they were – parents of children who are “under five.” While acknowledging the sometime value of Dialogue Group meetings, those with young children discussed how often it is difficult to attend meetings together, or at all based on the needs of their little ones.

HOWEVER, all agreed that it was a most crucial time to continue to explore these issues of faith and family formation.

And so, a mission statement of sorts was crafted, whereby, they would gather:

1. To share examples and be role models for each other on how best to integrate two religions into family life;

2. To form relationships/friendships with other interfaith couples who have similarly aged children; and

3. To learn how and when to start teaching our young children about God and the principles of our respective religious traditions.

We gather once a month in three locations, downtown Evanston (St. A's), Mt. Prospect (St. Raymond's) and Chicago (Old St. Patrick’s Church). The focus of our meetings are adult discussions, with an emphasis on topics that are important to interfaith families with young children; to arm you with information to make wise choices as your family grows together. Children are welcome too: they can stay in the room with their parents, or attend the free childcare across the hall. Again, the emphasis is on adult learning, not interfaith preschool!

the Under 5 calendar will be posted in September 2010 for the new school year!
